Gustaf Brandberg runs the family business Gullspång Invest and Gullspång Re:food, partnering with entrepreneurs to accelerate planet-positive paradigm shifts. Starting as a tech investment firm Gullspång has gradually developed into an investment company focusing on driving sustainability in the food system. Gullspång Re:food supports early-stage companies in solving humanity’s biggest challenges through transformations to plant-based food, regenerative farming, circular supply chains, and healthy diets.

We create very good food, but we also create a lot of problems in the way we do it today. That is why we need to push sustainability throughout the food system.

Why do we need to transform the food system?

“The food system is the largest system we have created. All people wake up hungry every day and a large part of the earth’s surface is used to produce the food we eat. What we eat affects human health to a large extent, but it also affects the planet, people who produce food and all the animals that give us food.

We create very good food, but we also create a lot of problems in the way we do it today. That is why we need to push sustainability throughout the food system. The good news is that there are not so many things we need to change to create a sustainable food system. If, for example, we stop producing meat in factories and find other ways to get the proteins and fats that we need, we have solved a large part of both the environmental problems but also problems with antibiotic resistance and the risk of infection. There are a number of such areas in the food system that we need to change on a global scale, and it can be done. There is a lot of innovation going on right now and there are many entrepreneurs who want to change this, it is also a fantastic investment opportunity. It feels very meaningful to be involved and change the most important system we have on the planet.”
